Starry Night FAQs

What is Starry Night?

Starry Night is an adults-only celebration of our amazing school, including delicious food and drinks, dancing, games, and a live and silent auction!  It is hosted by Friends of Skinner North, or FoSN, and is FoSN’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

What happens at Starry Night?

The question is more what DOESN’T happen at Starry Night!  We will have a cocktail hour with hors d’oevres, followed by dinner served at food stations, dancing, games, and a live and silent auction!  We will also have an open bar with beer, wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages.

Where and when is Starry Night?

Starry Night is Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 6-10 pm at the beautiful and historic Newberry Library, 60 W. Walton St., Chicago, IL 60610.

Will dinner and drinks be served at Starry Night?

Yes, dinner will be served at food stations, and we will have an open bar.

Why does FoSN host Starry Night?

FoSN hosts Starry Night to raise money for important needs related to the Skinner North building and curriculum. Some examples of past and in-process projects include:

  • Renovations to the auditorium

  • A new scoreboard

  • STEAM lab

  • Outdoor beautification project

FoSN is working closely with Dr. Magnuson to identify high priority projects for this year.

How much are tickets?

Early bird tickets are $125 each while supplies last.  The price will then go to $150/ticket.

Can kids come to Starry Night?

No, Starry Night is adults only.  It is an opportunity for the adults in the Skinner North community to hang out, have fun, meet others from the community, and celebrate the school.

Do I have to attend Starry Night in order to bid on the auction items?

No. You will be able to participate in the auction using our app from anywhere. More information to come.

What is the dress code for Starry Night?

Dressy casual.  If that sounds vague, it’s intended to be pretty open and described as “an overall aesthetic that is basically not-all-the-way-formal-but-please-don’t-wear-jean-shorts.”  This article has some examples if you want more information.

I want to help make Starry Night a success.  What can I do?

There are lots of ways to help:

  • Buy your tickets and consider sponsoring a Skinner North teacher/staff member

  • Donate a product or service to our auction

  • Host a caregiver party and build community while raising funds for Skinner North

  • Can’t join us on March 2? Make a donation instead

  • Volunteer! EmailChanel Robinson at chanelellerobinson@gmail.com.

Is there deadline to buy tickets?

There is no specific deadline, but we have a capacity limitation at the Newberry.  If we hit that number, we will stop selling tickets.

Is there parking at Newberry Library?

The Newberry has a small number of spaces, and there is plentiful street parking nearby. Discounted parking is available at the 100 W. Chestnut St. garage ($12 for up to 8 hours). Newberry is also between the Chicago and Clark/Division Red Line stops on the L.
