Family volunteers are the foundation of Friends of Skinner North--we couldn't do what we do without you. Being a volunteer doesn't require any special skills--you simply need to be yourself. As you share your time and skills, know that you are benefiting the school and our students. Knowing that you play a role in achieving this success is the satisfying part.

If you are interested in volunteering for a committee or an event, please click on the links below. Depending on your availability, you can spend as little as 30 minutes, as much as a whole day, or be the lead for an entire project. Some events may require you be in school, but there is a lot of work that can be done outside of school as well.

Volunteer Survey

We are updating our list of members, and gathering their interests and skills in order to manage FoSN opportunities and ensure volunteer optimization and satisfaction; we'd like to add your interests and skills!

Please click here to complete the survey.  This survey should take 5 minutes or less.

CPS Volunteer Approval Process

Volunteers who work with students or in the school, including classroom volunteers and field trip chaperones, must complete the CPS Volunteer Approval Process. Most volunteers can complete the simple Level II Approval. Visit CPS's Volunteer Information Page for instructions on becoming a volunteer.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

Classroom Volunteers

Most classrooms at Skinner North, especially in the lower grades, welcome classroom volunteers. These volunteers may assist with a wide range of products both in and out of the classroom. In order to volunteer, you must be a CPS approved volunteer.

Contact your child's teacher to learn more about volunteer opportunities in the classroom. You can also volunteer to assist with specials, especially art!

Fundraising Committee

The gap between the Chicago Public Schools budget and schools’ needs grows each year. We raise money for the school to help bridge this gap by purchasing supplies, equipment, software, books and other items that our students and teachers need every day. We run three main fundraisers each school year: Walk-a-Thon, Bridge The Gap and Starry Night.

Arts Committee

Arts Committee welcomes everyone who loves the arts and wants to help bring art, music, dance, and theater to Skinner North. Our major activities include supporting our Art and Music teachers, bringing arts activities to school events, and creating wall ads, displays, and auditorium backdrops for school events. We also help families find arts events and opportunities throughout Chicago. Volunteers don’t need any experience in the arts, as most of our activities require nothing more than cutting and pasting. We have volunteer opportunities available every month throughout the school year.

Communications Committee

The Skinner North Communications committee mission is to provide consistent and reliable means of communication for information related to the Skinner North and it's community. Communications committee is looking people who enjoy gathering and organizing information for publications such as social media or newsletters.

Wellness LSC Committee

Skinner North Wellness Committee is an LSC committee dedicated to the health and wellness of Skinner North students, teachers, staff, and families. The committee will view wellness as encompassing a number of dimensions beyond physical health, including emotional wellness, environmental wellness, intellectual wellness, and social wellness. Wellness needs volunteers to help run Wellness events, including the Walk-a-Thon and Yoga/Mindfulness Night, as well as assist in implementing district wellness initiatives.
