Last Saturday, ten members of the Skinner North Math Team participated in the Mathcounts Chicago Regional Competition at Kenwood Academy. These 10 students earned this opportunity after participating in the Mathcounts school competition a couple of weeks ago, where over forty 6th-8th grade students had a chance to earn a spot.
Our top 4 students represented Skinner North as a team and the remaining six competed as individuals. Skinner’s four-person team included Chloe N. (6th) Richard W. (6th), Kimi M. (6th) and Kallie W. (7th). Individual competitors included Grant G. (7th), Ellen T. (6th), Logan B. (8th), Maya K. (7th), Asha L. (6th), and Sahana R. (6th).
Kudos to our Skinner North Math Team! Our four-person team won first place in the Classical/Magnet Division and have been invited to participate in the State Competition in Joliet on Saturday, March 7. Chloe N. also earned 1st place and Richard N. earned 2nd overall for the Classical/Magnet Division. Grant G. & Asha L. also qualified to participate in the State Competition, earning the two only extra spots in the Classica/Magnet division with the next highest-ranking scores behind Chloe & Richard. This is the third year in a row that our school has qualified for the Mathcounts state competition!
A special “shout out” to Chloe N., who was a Top 20 competitor for the entire Mathcounts Chicago Regional Competition! This allowed Chloe to participate in the fast-paced Countdown Round, where top-scoring individuals got to compete against each other and the clock to solve challenging math problems.
Congratulations to the entire Skinner North Math Team and their coach, Mr.Marsden, on a job well done!
