5/6 & 7/8 Boys Basketball Teams Finish Season Strong!

February 5, 2020

The 5/6 Grade Boys basketball team finished with 4 wins, tied for 3rd place in the 5th/6th Grade Ogden Jenner division, and the only 2 hard-fought, close losses against the two teams (Ogden and Pritzker) meeting for the championship this upcoming Saturday.

The season was a success measured in many ways beyond point totals, wins, and losses. Individually and collectively the players showed improvement from the first practice to the last whistle: they learned how to come together as a team, put forth their very best effort regardless of results, and better developed an understanding of the game and basic skills. The boys also demonstrated character on and off the court interacting with opposing coaches, attendees/parents, game officials, facility managers, school administrators, etc.- the value of which cannot be underestimated and which makes this a very special group. The players can feel confident that they are prepared for new challenges next season.

Though our season ended, 0-6, the Skinner North boys 7th-8th grade team had a number of super close games and the team played better and better each week including a 1-point loss to Salazar. The defense was superb and intense put even our best opponents off their game. The boys improved by leaps and bounds throughout the season and even though we were faced with a challenging game schedule we had a lot of fun, came together as a team and learned a lot.
