Chess Update - Rickover Tournament

December 18, 2018

Our last local tournament of 2018 was another success! 37 Skinner North children played at Rickover along with almost 300 children from other area schools.

Our team included Mitra D playing in her first Skinner North tournament ever. She scored 3.5 out of 5 in the Novice 3-4 section. Congratulations Mitra! That is a great start with the team. We earned first place trophies in the Intermediate section and also in the Novice K-2 section. No other school won more team trophies and we led all teams with seven individual trophies.

Our Intermediate team was led by Matthew C, Doug Z and Charlie A who all earned trophies. Matthew took 1st place with 4.5 out of a possible 5 points. Great job by all three to lead our team to first place!

Our K-2 team was led by two first-time trophy winners. Luke C scored 4.5 and won the 2nd place trophy! Isaiah W earned a trophy with his 4.0 score. Hannah G also scored 4.0 but did not win a trophy due to tiebreaks. These three also did a great job leading our team to 1st place.

In other sections individual highlights included trophies won by Niccolo L and Jack H. Zack A, Eamonn K and Anjali M all scored 4.0 and could have won trophies if tiebreaks had fallen differently. Congratulations also to Mitchell A on a plus score in his first tournament in the Advanced section! Your hard work and preparation is paying off!
