Our Skinner Basketball teams had a great start to the season this past Saturday!
Our Skinner Boys 5/6 “Bulls” squad held an early lead in their first game by a few points, but things tightened up in the second half. As the final quarter wound down, the Ogden “Bulls” team brought the game to within a single point: 18-19 off a series of steals & turnovers. They called a timeout with less than 30 seconds on the clock. After inbounding, the Skinner defense held. Derrick P. grabbed the rebound, took the ball the length of the floor and managed a basket as time expired giving us the 21-18 win. Great scoring from Grant G., Jack K., and Derrick P. along with a stellar defense from Eli B., Sean C., Thomas E. and Jalen G. helped secure this team’s first win of the season!
The Skinner North 5/6 Boys “Warriors” team were met with fierce competition from the Ogden Warriors and lost their first game of the season. Our boys had to rally back though as they had a double-header on Saturday and played Burr an hour later. Despite a strong effort and some good pick and roll plays, our team fell short 15-6. With some planned adjustments and hard work in upcoming practices, this Warrior team will continue to improve and become a solid contender throughout the season.
The first 5/6 girls season game was as exciting as one can expect this early in the season. Despite a 4-3 loss for their first game, our Skinner North girls played their hearts out! Alexandra B. led the team, scoring all three points, with Emma C. and Lily G. adding a number of rebounds. The girls look to bounce back this upcoming Saturday against Ogden.
The Skinner boys 7/8 team also had a great game on Saturday! After a commanding 11-1 lead up to half time, our Burr opponents started to come alive in the 3rd quarter and pulled ahead of our SN team by 1 point. With some added pressure on the offense by Marcus O., Brian H., and Alex C. and solid assists and defensive plays by Jaiden L. and Rayon S., the 7/8 team was able pull out a win with a final score of Burr 19, Skinner North 23.
Kudos to all our Skinner North basketball teams for a great effort and fun start to the season! Go Skinner Basketball!
