From Ms. Poznicek, our music teacher:
This past week (Nov. 8-11th) was the American Orff Schulwerk Association Conference. Thank you FoSN for help funding my way there!
Orff Schulwerk is an approach to music education that combines music, movement, drama, and speech. What I love so much about this approach is that it is child centered and unlocks a student’s creativity through multiple exploration, improvisation, and creation opportunities. Students not only learn about music, they learn through music! Because of the generosity of Skinner North I was able to attend a variety of workshops and master classes on this approach and it has invigorated my teaching. I now have so many more activities, songs, and lessons to share with the students of Skinner North (ask 5th & 6th grade about the African folk song Waka Waka)! It means a lot to have parents and a school community that support my professional growth. Thank you!
