For our Veterans Tribute Week, all students participated in a letter writing project for Honor Flight Chicago (honorflightchicago.org). Additionally, students had the unique opportunity to hear speakers talk from the military about their experiences serving our country.
"Did you miss your family?"
"How did you decide what branch to go into or did the military decide?"
Do most people in the military have a job outside the military?
These are just some of the thoughtful questions our students had for the two veterans who visited Skinner North this week, Sonia Buenrostro (US Navy) and Gary Whyte (US Army).
During the three assemblies, students learned about the branches of the military, our US flag and what it was like for these brave veterans to be far away from home. Some students even learned how to salute!
As you can see, our students wrote some terrific thank you letters for these speakers and veterans who will go on future Honor Flights to Washington, DC.
Speaking of thanks, thank you to our teachers and administration for working with the FoSN Service and Arts Committees to bring this meaningful experience to our students!
