On Monday, our students will take part in a "Solar-bration" at Skinner North! Each class will learn about the importance of solar energy and then head outside to see where our brand-new solar arrays are placed, above the school's main entrance.
Students will learn how they can monitor the energy our school's panels generate here. Finally, students will receive solar bracelets that change color when hit with direct sunlight.
Our school earned these panels as part of a collaborative "Illinois Solar Schools" grant from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation. Eighteen months ago, our students raised money through a "Sunny Money" coin drive to provide our 10% portion of the solar panel purchase and installation.
A big thanks to teacher Zach Schroeder for spearheading this incredible project! Several parents and members of the FoSN Sustainability and Grants teams helped write the grant and research vendors.
When we work together, anything's possible!
