The gap between the Chicago Public Schools budget and Skinner North’s needs grows each year. Friends of Skinner North (FoSN) helps bridge this gap by purchasing supplies, equipment, software, curriculum, teacher professional development, facilities improvements and other items that our students and teachers need every day.
Bridge the Gap is an annual pledge drive that allows families to make a tax-deductible donation to FoSN, which enables the administration to plan for the next academic year and meet our school's growing needs. The legacy of parent and community support through FoSN is key to Skinner North's success, providing the funds we need for learning, laughter, and making memories. Bridge the Gap has a fundraising goal of $60,000 for 2019-2020.
HOW MUCH SHOULD I GIVE?
Unlike other Chicago public schools, we do not have a suggested minimum donation. We understand each family’s situation is different, so we ask families give an amount they are comfortable with – every dollar makes a difference and no amount is too small to benefit our community!
Remember, your donation is tax-deductible! (FEIN 27-3567428).
HOW CAN I DONATE?
Donate via Zelle (no fees!) – Use FosnFundraising@gmail.com. Please write “Bridge the Gap” and your email address in the memo section. You can access Zelle through your regular online banking app or website. Click here to see if your bank participates. If your bank is not listed or you prefer to use a debit card, you can also pay using the Zelle app.
Donate via Check – Checks should be made to Friends of Skinner North. Envelopes can be returned to your child’s homeroom teacher or the fundraising crate in the office.
Employer Match - Ask if your employer matches donations - a simple $50 donation from your family can turn into a whopping $200 or more for Skinner North!
If you have any questions, please email FOSNfundraising@gmail.com.
HOW WILL MY DONATION BE USED? TO CREATE THIS AND SO MUCH MORE!
Since 2015, artist Rich Alapack has been using his “we all live here” campaign to spread the message of inclusivity and community (www.wealllivehereproject.com). Rich presented to the Skinner North students, and has been working with Dr. Magnuson and FoSN to design an interactive permanent installation, which students will help create! Above is a rendering of a portion of the initial design. The Chicago zip codes across the top of the building recognize the geographic diversity of our community - our students travel from 40+ zip codes in order to attend each day! With your donation and support, students will begin creating the multicolored “bricks” this winter, with a goal of final installation completion this Spring.
The first 100 donors will receive an insulated lunch bag!
How Does FoSN Help?
2019-20 FoSN donations have already provided Skinner North with:
iPad resources and charging stations
Scoreboard for the gymnasium (coming soon!)
Classroom and art supplies
Student and teacher subscriptions
32 books supporting growth mindset and #beYouNique curriculum
Teacher professional development and workshops
International Night and Art Fair
How Will My Donation Be Used?
A number of facilities improvements are currently being considered, including:
Upgrade acoustics, lighting, and AV equipment in the auditorium to enhance student theater productions, music performances, school-wide advisory meetings, organization meetings, and seminars. Full painting project in auditorium has recently been completed!
Addition of an overhang at the rear of the school to greatly enhance the dismissal process
Telecommunications and technology upgrades to the library and multi-use/Parent Room, which will expand outreach to the school community
Projects relating to the maintenance and improvement of physical CPS buildings (interior and exterior) generally require full coordination with CPS Facilities Management, which may delay or impede desired projects. We ask for your patience while we work through necessary CPS protocol. Please join a FoSN meeting or email for all project updates.
You can donate in any amount using your bank or credit card using Paypal. You can also set up a recurring donation. Just click the gold donate button or one of the donation boxes below!
Please note that a 2.9% PayPal fee will be added to all credit card transactions. We are working hard to ensure that we can provide our school with as close to 100% of the proceeds as possible. Thank you for understanding.
